For the Mother Who Has Given More Than She Has Kept

For the Mother Who Has Given More Than She Has Kept
Living Fully

There is a particular moment in motherhood when you realise that you have spent years giving, caring, organising, anticipating and holding everything together, and somewhere along the way, you have lost touch with yourself. Not because you did anything wrong. Not because you did not love your family deeply. But because motherhood asks so much of us.

The early months with a baby are often where the focus naturally goes. We talk about recovery after birth, newborn sleep, feeding, breastfeeding and surviving those first intense weeks. But what happens after that, when everyone assumes you are “back to normal”?

The truth is that many mothers are still recovering long after those first six to eight weeks.

The physical, emotional and hormonal changes of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, sleep deprivation and years of putting everyone else first do not simply disappear because your baby is no longer a newborn. Recovery is not a six week process. For many mothers, it is a much longer journey of rebuilding energy, restoring health and reconnecting with themselves.

Yet so many women simply continue on. They adapt, they cope and they keep showing up because that is what mothers do. They become incredibly skilled at carrying a lot, often without recognising how much they themselves are carrying.

Returning to Yourself After Years of Caring

Returning to yourself does not mean going back to who you were before motherhood. Motherhood changes us. It expands us. It asks us to grow in ways we never expected. It means reconnecting with the woman underneath all the roles and responsibilities. The woman who has dreams, needs, desires and a body that also deserves care.

I know this because I lived it myself.

I was the mother who thought I could do it all. The one who believed I should be able to figure things out, push through and manage without needing too much support.

And yes, I did.

But looking back, I can also see the cost of always being the one who manages. I can see how much energy it takes to constantly be the capable one, the one who keeps going, the one who does not need anything.

There is a difference between being capable and being truly supported. There is a difference between surviving and restoring. And restoration is something we rarely talk about.

Over the years of supporting families as a doula, I have also seen how much this part of the journey matters. My role often begins during pregnancy and continues through those first precious weeks after birth. I walk alongside families through the intensity of the early days, helping them adjust, recover, find confidence and settle into their new reality.

But what I have noticed again and again is that when our time together comes to an end, many mothers are only just beginning to realise how much support they actually need.

The first eight weeks are such an important foundation, but they are not the whole journey. I have had mothers come back to me asking for more support because they are still navigating recovery, exhaustion, changes in identity, feeding challenges, sleep deprivation and the emotional adjustment of becoming a mother.

For a long time, I have focused my doula work around those first weeks because that is where so much immediate support is needed. But after seeing what mothers continue to need beyond that window, I have finally decided to create space to support women further into their motherhood journey.

Because the transition does not end when the newborn phase does. In many ways, that is when a different kind of restoration begins.

Restoration Goes Deeper Than Self Care

The Restoration Program was created from this understanding.

It is not another generic mum reset telling you to take a bath, drink more water or simply find more time for yourself. Those things can be lovely, but true restoration goes much deeper than that.

The foundation of this program comes from the original Life Reset Program, which has been tested, refined and loved over time. The Restoration Program combines the metabolic health principles that made Life Reset so powerful with a deeper focus on the emotional journey of motherhood and what women need after years of giving.

Because our bodies need support after all they have carried.

Pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, hormonal changes, interrupted sleep and the constant demands of caring for others all influence our health. Restoring yourself means looking at the whole picture. It means supporting your metabolism, hormones, energy, mood, sleep and relationship with your body. But restoration is not only physical. It is also about allowing yourself to receive.

You Do Not Have to Earn Support

One of the biggest lessons I have learned, both personally and through supporting mothers as a doula, is that many women wait until they are completely depleted before they allow themselves to receive support.

Especially mothers who are high achievers, caregivers and women who naturally take responsibility for others often believe they should be able to manage on their own. They know what they need to do. They know the habits that would support them. They know they would feel better if they prioritised themselves. What they often lack is permission.

Permission to take their own wellbeing seriously. Permission to invest in themselves. Permission to stop believing that doing everything alone is a sign of strength.

Support is not something you need only when things are falling apart. Support is what allows you to feel more resourced, more connected and more present in the life you are already living. You deserve to feel well while you are living motherhood, not only recover from it afterwards.

The Restoration Program will be opening in 2027.

Right now, I am immersed in supporting my beautiful doula families and welcoming new babies into the world. This work continues to remind me every day how important support is, not only in the beginning of motherhood, but throughout the many years that follow.

Soon, I will be creating space to support mothers in another important part of their journey. The journey of coming home to themselves again.

The Restoration Program will be launching as a small premiere group in 2027, with limited spaces available so I can offer the personalised support and care that this work deserves.

If this speaks to you and you feel that this may be the support you have been looking for, you are welcome to join the waitlist, just send me a message. You will be the first to know when the program opens and receive early access to secure your place.

For the mother who has given more than she has kept, this is your invitation to receive too.

With love, Johanna.
